Using GPU Ninja in Claude

Last updated

Before you start#

Claude connects to GPU Ninja's consumer MCP server at https://mcp.gpuninja.com/mcp. It needs a free GPU Ninja account, which you create while connecting by confirming your email address. There's no password and no payment, and nothing to set up beforehand except an email address you can read.

Registering subscribes you to the daily digest unless you untick the box on the sign-in form, and you can unsubscribe at any time without losing access. Registration doesn't unlock any data: the same data is open through the public API and the sign-in-free connector described in Using the MCP servers.

Add GPU Ninja from the Connectors Directory#

GPU Ninja's listing in Claude's Connectors Directory is at https://claude.ai/directory/connectors/gpu-ninja.

  1. Open the listing in claude.ai and connect GPU Ninja.
  2. Claude opens GPU Ninja's sign-in page at app.gpuninja.com. Follow Signing in below.
  3. When your browser returns to Claude, GPU Ninja is connected and its tools are available in your conversations.

Add a custom connector in claude.ai#

If you prefer, add the server by URL instead of from the directory.

  1. In claude.ai, add a custom connector.
  2. Enter the server URL exactly: https://mcp.gpuninja.com/mcp. Don't add a trailing slash.
  3. Connect, and sign in as described in Signing in.

Add GPU Ninja to Claude Code#

Add the server as an HTTP MCP server:

claude mcp add --transport http gpu-ninja https://mcp.gpuninja.com/mcp

Then, in a Claude Code session, run /mcp, choose GPU Ninja and authenticate. Claude Code opens the sign-in page in your browser and receives the approval on your own computer. When an app can only receive the approval on your computer, the consent page warns you that only apps running on this computer can receive it. That's expected for Claude Code.

Other MCP clients#

Any MCP client that supports remote servers over Streamable HTTP and MCP's OAuth authorization can connect to https://mcp.gpuninja.com/mcp and sign in the same way. The client discovers everything it needs from the server's 401 response. Using the MCP servers lists the OAuth details for client developers.

Clients that run in a web browser are accepted only from claude.ai and claude.com. Clients that don't run in a browser, such as desktop apps, command-line tools and servers, aren't affected.

If your client can't sign in, use the sign-in-free connector at https://connector.gpuninja.com/mcp instead. It offers exactly the same tools and data.

Signing in#

  1. Enter your email address. On GPU Ninja's sign-in page, type your email address and complete the bot check.

  2. Choose about the digest. The checkbox decides whether a new account receives the daily digest. In the EEA, the UK, or when your country can't be determined, it starts unticked; elsewhere it starts ticked. It has no effect if you already have an account.

Then submit the form. GPU Ninja emails you a sign-in link and shows a page that waits for you to open it. That page looks the same whether or not you already have an account.

  3. Open the link GPU Ninja emails you. It works once and expires after 15 minutes.

    • In the same browser, you're signed in straight away.
    • On another device, such as your phone, you're asked to confirm. Choose Approve sign-in on that device, then go back to your original browser tab: it signs in on its own within a few seconds. Or choose Sign in on this device instead.
  4. Review the consent page. It shows the app asking for access as the app names itself, where its sign-in information comes from, where the approval will be sent, and what it's asking for: "Use GPU Ninja's read-only MCP tools as you", and "Stay connected" if it asks to remain signed in. It also shows the address you're signed in with, and Not you? Sign out if it isn't you. If you decline, nothing is connected.

  5. Choose Allow. Your browser returns to Claude, and you're connected.

Claude stays connected by refreshing its access on its own: each access lasts 15 minutes, and Claude renews it in the background. If you don't use GPU Ninja in Claude for 30 days, you'll be asked to sign in again.

The first time you sign in creates your account. Afterwards, signing in again just signs you in; it doesn't change your digest choice.

What Claude can do with GPU Ninja#

Claude gets ten read-only tools, the same ones the sign-in-free connector offers. It can search graphics cards and GPU chips, read a card's or chip's full specification, compare up to three cards, check which PC cases a card fits (and which cards fit a case), find which AI models a card can run and which cards can run a model, and list benchmark results. The tools can't change anything, and their answers are the same whoever asks: your account is used for limits, not to change the results. Using the MCP servers describes every tool and its arguments.

Try asking:

  • "Which graphics cards with at least 16 GB of VRAM fit in a Fractal North?"
  • "Compare the ASUS ROG Strix 4090 with the MSI RTX 4080 Super Gaming X."
  • "Which cards in stock can run Llama 3.3 70B at 4-bit?"

Limits#

Each account can make 60 tool calls and 300 requests a minute, and 5,000 tool calls a day; the daily count resets at 00:00 UTC. The limits belong to your account, not to Claude or your network, so other people's use never counts against you. Past a limit, GPU Ninja answers HTTP 429 with a Retry-After header, and Claude sees a message that starts "GPU Ninja is busy" and says when you can continue. See Limits.

Managing your connection#

Your account page at https://app.gpuninja.com/account lists the apps connected to your account, including Claude, most recently used first. For each one it shows the name the app gives itself, where its sign-in information comes from, and when it was connected and last used.

  • Disconnect Claude by choosing Revoke next to it. Claude can keep calling GPU Ninja for up to 15 minutes afterwards, until its current access expires.
  • Remove the connector in Claude to stop Claude using it. To also end GPU Ninja's side of the connection, revoke it on your account page.
  • Delete your account from the account page. If you signed in more than 15 minutes earlier, GPU Ninja asks you to sign in again first, then you type delete to confirm. Every connected app stops working: Claude's next tool call gets "Your GPU Ninja account no longer exists. Reconnect to sign in again." See Your account.

Troubleshooting#

ProblemWhat to do
The sign-in email didn't arriveCheck your spam folder. If you request several links in a short time (five in an hour, or ten in a day), GPU Ninja stops sending more for a while without saying so; wait and try again later.
"This link has expired or was already used"Links last 15 minutes and work once. Request a new one from the sign-in page.
"This form is out of date"The sign-in form no longer matches your browser's cookies, for example after you cleared them or restarted the browser. Reload the page and try again.
You opened the link on your phone and your computer isn't signed inOpen the link again and choose Approve sign-in on that device, or open the link on your computer.
Claude says it couldn't connect or authorizeCheck the URL is exactly https://mcp.gpuninja.com/mcp, with no trailing slash, then remove the connector and add it again.
Claude was disconnected after a whileReconnect and sign in again.
"GPU Ninja is busy"You've reached a rate limit. Wait the time the message gives.
